The eBody Classic and Curvy are discontinued releases. They are now available for FREE on marketplace and at many Gift venues like Palomma Plaza or Ajuda Brasil. The vendors are Click-and-Accept (CnA). The BoM relay is $0 on marketplace and $1 Refunded in-world. (You might not want the relay, but it is free.)
My first discovery was that I did not need to change clothes from the Legacy-compatable outfit I was wearing when I swapped out the Legacy body for the eBody Classic. I was simply standing on a pose stand, not moving around at all, but things seemed to fit in the pose I was using. Since I was decently dressed, I decided to see about shoes that fit.
I was told that old SLINK footwear might work with these bodies, so I put on a pair of free SLINK boots from Marketplace. I didn’t bother adjusting my feet to high, but the calves seemed to fit fine. This might have been because the shape I used with Legacy seems a bit thin, but it is certainly acceptable. Even though I didn’t compeltely test the knee boots, I moved on to trying a pair of sandal-base high heels. I went to the HUD to adjust the ankles and they fit perfectly. (The limitation here is these old gift clothes often lack a color HUD so you get whatever was offered. In this case, that’s a mustand color claimed as “nude” but not like any nude color I’ve seen.)
When I went to change the ankles, I noticed several sections of the HUD labeled “only available in the full version”. Unfortunately, that means they are not available anywhere, as you can’t find a full version. This eliminates setting clothing applier layers, nail colors, mesh alpha (no big deal) or a color wheel for skin tone adjustment (maybe a bigger deal). So, naturally, I shoudl switch to BoM, right/? NOT SO FAST! It seems the BoM Skin is proprietary to eBody Classic and Curvy and they might even be a little different between themselves. I checked all the gifts I got and found no BoM layer skins for eBody Classic or Curvy. However, it is interesting to note tha the skin that appeared when I wore the body looks the same as the one I wore (BoM) with Legacy. When I combined this observation with the clothing fit, I had to triple-check that I had actually removed the body. It was not listed as worn and a Refresh Attachments and Rebake Textures resulted in the same look.
At this point I decided to take a closer look at the body and I think it looked great. I think the skin looks natural and I still can’t believe it is from a discontinued body as unpacked from the gift store. I decided to go demo some Animation Overrides to see if the clothing fit holds up. But before I left the private platform changing room, I decided to swap to the eBody Curvy. Well, it’s very nice, but the clothing (both top and bottom) did not come close to fitting. That was very much what i expected, and I quickly changed back to Classic. The Curvy looks amazing so I’ll be unpacking anything that I can remember included a Curvy version later.
I visited VISTA ANIMATIONS because they have stands where you can select different Runs or Walks and Sits and Dances. The idea was to move the avatar skeleton while you remain in place. I wanted to see how the body moved and if the clothing let everything poke through. The Runs looked fine. The Sits were an absolute disaster. Again, this was not a surprise. The surprise was that I could wear a Legacy outfit at all and it seemed fine until I sat down. At that point the skirt was pretty much not a skirt and maybe more a belt. Not suitable for public wear. So, now to locate an eBody outfit. I started with a simple Bodysuit which came in both Classic and Curvy sizes. It’s a minimalist test and passed.
I wanted to test Sitting poses because it seems to sit you need to wear slacks. Even a Skirt Set made for eBODY_CLASSIC flung wildly off the lower rear when sitting, fully exposing the butt. Is this an issue with the clothing or the body? I tried a second skirt outfit from a different creator and I could see the mesh of the body in the hip area push out and protrude through the skirt. The skirt followed the body better than the first test, but this does not appear to be designed for sitting without just wearing slacks.
Before ending this exercise, I decided to make one more try. A Kimono dress, which turned out to be a little NSFW, following the curvature of the body perfectly in a seated position. This proved it isn’t a body issue. I added the appropriate “panty liner” from a different dress and this outfit worked perfectly.
All-in-all, I would say this is not an everyday body you will use 100% of the time. I think it looks great and if I can pull together a dozen nice outfits from the old gift piles I will be happy. I could not justify the expense of buying BoM Skin and it you are not lucky enough to find a perfect match for your face skin, this would be a frustrating experience.
I knew going in that of the hundreds and hundreds of gift items I collected I would be throwing out the poorer efforts. I think I have a couple of candidates for that already.
