About Us

We started discussing this installation at a party on New Years Eve 2021, and agreed to push this forward in 2022.

Several of use were students in the same dormitory and a few already had Social Networking accounts on an avatar-based site called Second Life. One person in the discussion mentioned their account was created in 2007. We were surprised at the nerd level in the room and thought it might be great fun to learn how to create our own website and record the bits and pieces of information we learned as we attempted to push ourselves and learn how to create content in the online virtual worlds.

What is Second Life?

Second Life is an online virtual world where participants are expected to generate the content. There is an in-world economy of Creators selling their wares, builder groups where people are taught how to create things, and training is often for free or for nominal “tips” if the participant feels the engagement was worth it.

There are many varieties of participants in the Second Life platform and you are just as likely to encounter someone from the other side of the planet as you are someone in your state or provence, or whatever your regional jurisdictions are called.

Some of us views the first two weeks as “Playing barbies” but it is so much more than that. To get to where I am typing this now, I had to contact a Domain Name Service company, then a Hosting provider, then learn to install blogging software and third-party styles (called “Themes”) and, eventually, I will learn how to write interesting text, maybe.

See you in-world and at inworldz.org – right here!
